Compelling and accessible, the book centers around a framework of “Laws of Zero” – a prediction that exponentially decreasing costs will drive incredible innovation and efficiencies across sectors from biotechnology to transportation in the near future. The authors leverage fascinating anecdotes to bolster their vision, capturing the reader in histories of, for instance, the Erie Canal’s opening – which, though deemed a “folly” at the time, led to a 99.5% decrease in transportation costs and increased travel speed by orders of magnitude. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Kesh R. -- To Predict the Future, Invent it : A Brief History of A Perfect Future is a good read that offers a glimpse into what the future could be if we tap into technological advancements available to us. The book is futuristic and offers a lot of exciting scenarios of what the future could be, and how some of our modern day problems could be solved. The chapter “Future History of Transportation” does a good job in showing how the transport system can transform to benefit the masses. It provides details on how the elderly and disabled who the current transport system excludes could be included and how new transport modes that are environmentally friendly could be developed. The only caveat I had when reading this book was that it skipped over what needs to be done right now and the costs it takes to achieve this utopian future. The ideas in the book were far too general. Chapter 14, titled “What Individuals Can Do” tries to address how different stakeholders can play a role in building this future. The advice given was not specific enough and doesn’t effectively convince someone to take action. The book could have used more realistic examples and placed more emphasis on what could be done today. Right now it focuses more on the future but does not necessarily tell us how we get there.
